MY VISIT

When should I arrive?

Our all-day tickets mean no more sticking to a schedule. Just book your tickets and arrive anytime during opening hours that suits you. The feature experience will run for approximately 2 hours after the last entry time.  Opening and closing times are subject to change. Please check times on the date you wish to attend.

Are there physical paintings or artefacts on display in the venue?

Yes! Central to the Leonardo da Vinci experience is an awe-inspiring display of 50 “machine inventions”, painstakingly crafted by, and on loan from, the Museo Leonardo da Vinci in Rome. Skilled Italian artisans were commissioned to study and construct a range of inventions from Leonardo’s sketches, using, where possible, techniques and materials that would have been available to da Vinci himself in fifteenth-century Italy.

Another key component of the experience is dedicated to the pioneering work of the famous French Optical Engineer Mr. Pascal Cotte, consultant to The Louvre Museum. Cotte is the inventor of a multispectral camera that is able to scan from ultraviolet through to infrared. His research peels back the layers of Mona Lisa, revealing previously hidden details. Mona Lisa Revealed is an area devoted to Cotte’s ongoing discoveries that have been more than 15 years in the making – and includes the only exact 360º replica in the world of the famed painting made from his one-of-a-kind research, with her front, back and sides revealed to us from Cotte’s 240,000,000 pixel multispectral camera.

THE LUME Melbourne is also proud to display original pages from Leonardo's precious Codex Atlanticus notebook, revealing his insatiable curiosity spanning anatomy, engineering, flying machines and hydraulic systems. This is the first time these original sketches have been shown in Australia, representing a once in a generation opportunity for insight and inspiration.

What is the best way to see the experience?

We encourage you to move around freely to view THE LUME Melbourne from different perspectives and visit all areas of interest. There is some seating available (including ottomans and bean bags), and you can sit on the floor or stand against the walls, always being mindful of other visitors in the venue.

IS A FREE GUIDED TOUR AVAILABLE?

There are currently no free talks or tours available for Leonardo da Vinci.

Audio descriptions are available via a QR code throughout the experience. If you wish to listen, please bring a pair of headphones on the day of your visit.

Can I take photos and videos?

Yes, you are more than welcome to take photos and videos inside the experience without flash. Please be considerate of other visitors when taking photos. If you post them on social media, use the hashtag #thelumemelbourne so more people can see the experience through your eyes. Please be advised that flash photography is not permitted inside THE LUME Melbourne.

Commercial photography or video is not permitted at THE LUME Melbourne without prior written permission. If you are planning to film in or around the venue, please contact us.

I have a question about the Best Seat in the House.

Best Seat in the House can be booked as an Add-On when you select an Entry Ticket.

Seating is based on a first come, first served. Your table is reserved for 1 hour from your session time. We recommend you give yourself enough time to get to your reserved table. Unfortunately, we may not be able to extend your booking longer than 1 hour as we need to make room for the next visitors.

If you’d like to stay longer you are welcome to move to the café tables in the area behind (subject to availability). Based on the seating plan for the Best Seat in the House reserved area we are unable to accommodate high chairs or prams. Please complete our online form if you have specific enquiries and we will do our best to accommodate you.

You are welcome to arrive prior to your dinner seating or stay and wander the gallery floor at your leisure afterwards, noting THE LUME Melbourne’s standard closing time of 9:30pm on Saturdays.

Feast for the Senses is available for groups of two or more people. If you would like to book for six or more people, please contact us at enquiries.melbourne@thelume.com.

The Feast for the Senses experience is purchasable as a separate, non-Concession ticket because it includes a specially-crafted, three-course menu in addition to entrance to Leonardo da Vinci. Visitors who are eligible for Concession tickets are welcome to purchase general Concession entry tickets to Leonardo da Vinci and visit our Caffe Medici, purchasing items from our standard à la carte menu prior to 6pm on Saturdays, or the Snack Bar menu from 6pm onwards on Saturdays.
